What Corinthian Bells makes

Corinthian Bells makes one thing: tuned aluminum wind chimes. Every Corinthian Bells wind chime in our data has six tubes. They come in sizes from 27 to 78 inches overall, in a range of finishes, and some carry an engraved design for a wedding, a mother or a memorial.

The listings on Amazon US show Wind River Chimes as the maker and seller, and the titles read "Corinthian Bells by Wind River." So when you see the two names together, that's why. Corinthian Bells is the collection. Wind River is the company that makes it.

The cards above show every Corinthian Bells listing in our data, grouped by size where the listing states it. Below that are notes on the sizes, the tuning, the finishes and the engraved designs. Further down is a short section on Wind River's other chime lines.

Corinthian Bells, made by Wind River

Here's what the brand file in our data shows about the maker. The sources are listed at the bottom of the page.

That's the whole file. If it isn't in our data, it isn't on this page. A librarian's habit, but a useful one.

Corinthian Bells sizes, from 27 to 78 inches

The number in each model name is the overall length in inches, from the top of the hanger to the bottom of the wind catcher. That's the first thing to read.

Overall length What the listings in our data state Finishes in our data
27 in 6 aluminum tubes, key of C pentatonic, longest tube 12.5 in, 0.75-in tubes Copper Vein, Black, Silver Vein, Sky Blue
30 in 6 aluminum tubes, key of A Black
36 in 6 aluminum tubes, key of E or pentatonic E Green, Copper Vein, Sky Blue, Silver Vein
44 in 6 aluminum tubes, key of C Black
50 in 6 aluminum tubes, key of A, longest tube 27.75 in, 1.5-in tubes Copper Vein
56 in 6 aluminum tubes, pentatonic scale of G Copper Vein, Patina Green, Midnight Blue, Plum, Silver Vein, Sky Blue
60 in 6 aluminum tubes, pentatonic scale of G Black, Sky Blue
65 in 6 aluminum tubes, pentatonic scale of Eb Copper Vein
74 in 6 aluminum tubes, pentatonic scale of C Copper Vein
78 in 6 aluminum tubes, pentatonic scale of B Copper Vein

The listings that give tube measurements tell the story. The 27-inch chime's longest tube is 12.5 inches with a 0.75-inch diameter. The 50-inch chime's longest tube is 27.75 inches with a 1.5-inch diameter. Longer, wider tubes ring lower and carry farther. That's physics, not a sales line.

Small: 27 and 30 inches

The short end of the lineup suits a covered porch, a patio or a small yard. Several of the engraved designs come in the 27-inch size.

Middle: 36 to 50 inches

The 36-inch size has the most finishes in our data. It's a fair choice for a porch that faces a yard rather than a neighbor's bedroom. The 44- and 50-inch chimes step the tone down again.

Large: 56 to 78 inches

The 56-inch chime has the widest choice of finishes in our data. Above it, the 60-, 65-, 74- and 78-inch chimes are long, low and loud enough to hear across a yard. They need a hanging point with plenty of clear space beneath, and a hook or bracket rated for the weight the maker lists.

Pick the size for the neighbors too

Here's my one opinion on this page. A wind chime is tuned to be heard. The size and tube length tell you how much and how far. So pick a chime for the people who will hear it, not only for you.

I learned that at home. One spring a long chime went up outside our bedroom window. My idea. Dell lasted four nights. It now hangs at the end of the dock, a good walk down the slope from the house, where only the frogs complain. The frogs, for the record, are louder.

You can check the opinion against the listings. The 27-inch chime's longest tube is less than half the length of the 50-inch chime's. On a small lot, with a neighbor's window 20 feet away, the short end of the table is the polite end.

Dell's take, from the porch, when I asked him to settle it for this page: "Hang the big one where you'd put a dinner bell. Hang the small one where you'd put a doorbell." I've stopped arguing with that one. It's annoyingly sensible.

Tuning: what the key on the listing means

Each Corinthian Bells listing states its tuning, usually as a key or a pentatonic scale. A pentatonic scale is a five-note scale, the kind that sounds pleasant in almost any order. That matters on a chime, because the wind picks the order.

The listings in our data name these:

If you're adding a second chime to a porch that already has one, the stated key helps. Two chimes in unrelated keys can sound like two radios in one room.

Finishes and colors

The finish is the listed color of the powder-coated tubes. In our data that's Copper Vein, Black, Green, Patina Green, Midnight Blue, Plum, Silver Vein and Sky Blue. Not every finish comes in every size. Each size-and-finish pair is its own Amazon listing, so if you find the size you want in the wrong color, look at the other listings for that size.

Finish names are the maker's own. A color on a phone screen and a color in the afternoon sun on a porch are not always the same color. I'd go by the finish name more than the photo.

Engraved designs: weddings, mothers and faith

Some Corinthian Bells listings in our data carry an engraved design on the wind catcher. The listing states the design, and the wording is fixed.

None of the listings in our data offers custom engraving with your own words. If you need a name or a date, check the listing's own details first.

Corinthian Bells memorial wind chimes

Several Corinthian Bells listings are made as memorial chimes, and the listings mark them that way. In our data they include a 36-inch chime in Sky Blue engraved with a message of remembrance, and pet memorial chimes in 27 and 36 inches with an engraved pawprint and the message the listing shows. Some plain chimes, such as the 27-inch and 50-inch in Copper Vein, are also marked as memorial designs in their listings.

A memorial chime is often given to someone grieving. A size from the shorter end of the table suits most porches and patios. Our memorial wind chimes page gathers memorial chimes from several makers in one quiet place.

More from Wind River

Wind River makes other chime collections besides Corinthian Bells. Three of them come up when people search for this brand.

Apart from those Festival listings, these lines don't have their own listings in our data right now. When they do, they'll show up in the wind chimes table with everything else.

Where to buy Corinthian Bells

The Corinthian Bells chimes on this page are Amazon US listings. In our data, the live offers are sold by Wind River Chimes. The "Check price" buttons go to each listing. We don't show prices on the site; the listing has the current one.

If a size or finish you want isn't in the cards, it may be out of stock or not listed on Amazon US right now. Our data is checked regularly, and the cards update with it.

How to hang a long chime

A few plain things before you hang one, from the general advice on chimes rather than any one listing.

  1. Measure the drop. The overall length plus a little swing room is the clear space you need below the hook.
  2. Check the hook. Use a hook or bracket rated for the chime's weight. A wind chime hanger gives you a spot away from the house.
  3. Leave room to swing. Keep the chime clear of siding, gutters and branches, so it rings instead of knocks.
  4. Bring it in for storms if the maker says to. The listing or the care card is the place to look.

If the hook is high, use a ladder rated for your weight on firm, level ground, keep three points of contact, and have a second person there.

Who doesn't need one

If you live in an apartment with a shared wall and a balcony, a 56-inch chime is a lot of chime. The 27-inch end of the table, or no chime at all, is kinder to the building.

And if you already have a long chime you love, a second big one won't make it twice as nice. It'll make it twice as loud.

For other makers, start at the wind chimes page, or the deep tone wind chimes page if a low sound is what you're after.

Head to head

Corinthian Bells vs Woodstock Chimes

Both brands sell tuned aluminum chimes on Amazon US, but the ranges differ. In our data, Corinthian Bells listings are six-tube aluminum chimes from 27 to 78 inches overall, each with a stated key or pentatonic scale, and most state made in USA. Woodstock Chimes listings in our data run from 14 to 54 inches and mix aluminum with a few steel and capiz shell models; several are tuned to a song, such as the opening notes of Amazing Grace, and made in USA is not stated on them. Pick Corinthian Bells for a long, low chime with a single stated scale. Pick Woodstock Chimes for a smaller chime, a song tuning or a material other than aluminum.

Questions about Corinthian Bells

What are Corinthian Bells?

Corinthian Bells is a wind chime collection from Wind River Chimes. The maker describes it as one of its Premier collections, with powder-coated, heavy-walled aluminum tubes strung from a single interior pin and polymer strikers. On Amazon US the listings in our data are six-tube chimes from 27 to 78 inches overall.

Where are Corinthian Bells made?

In the USA, according to the maker. Wind River says each Corinthian Bells chime is cut, tuned, assembled and tested by hand in the USA, and a 2023 Northern Virginia Magazine profile places the company in Manassas Park, Virginia. Most Amazon listings in our data also state made in USA.

What do Corinthian Bells wind chimes sound like?

It depends on the size. The listings name a tuning for each model, such as the key of C pentatonic for the 27-inch chime, the key of A for the 50-inch and a pentatonic scale of B for the 78-inch. Longer chimes have longer tubes and sound lower. The 50-inch listing gives a longest tube of 27.75 inches.

Are there Corinthian Bells memorial wind chimes?

Yes. Several listings in our data are engraved memorial designs, including pet memorial chimes with a pawprint and a 36-inch chime engraved for remembrance. Each listing states its own engraving. Our memorial wind chimes page gathers memorial chimes from several makers in one quiet place.

Can I get personalized Corinthian Bells?

The Amazon listings in our data offer fixed engraved designs, such as wedding rings, a verse from 1 Corinthians, or a message for Mom. None of them states custom engraving with your own words. If you need a name or date added, check the listing's own details before you order.

Are Corinthian Bells wind chimes good?

We answer that with data, not a verdict. The listings state aluminum tubes, a named tuning and, on most models, made in USA. Wind River lists a five-year limited warranty for Corinthian Bells against defects in craftsmanship or materials. We have not collected buyer reviews for this page, so we don't summarize them.
